But, but, teh baybeez!

For anyone making a show of speculating on how many “unborn babies” lives were “saved” by the shooting at the Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs: absolutely none. Some of those fetuses might end up getting aborted at a later stage of gestation, at which time they’ll look more human, but those pregnant people still don’t want babies and laying siege to an abortion clinic won’t make them any more interested in adding more human beings to this world.

But don’t shut up on my account! By all means, keep telling us how you understand this act was a terrorist attack against abortion rights. Keep telling us about how the idea of those “unborn babies” is so much more important than the lives of breathing adults.

You LOSE, you get NOTHING, good DAY, sir.

Everyday American terrorists

There is now an active shooting situation in Colorado Springs, CO, in which several people, including 3 police officers, have been injured. It is near a Planned Parenthood. The location is probably not a coincidence.

I hope the shooter is soon apprehended, I hope all the victims recover from their injuries with minimal complications, and I hope everyone notes the amount of damage done on American soil by people waving the “pro-life” flag.

Scandinavian Christian Terrorist

As more information comes out on Anders Behring Breivik, the reactions are all over the map.

Sam Harris, for example, complains that Breivik is making his side look bad:

What cannot be doubted, however, is that Breivik’s explicit goal was to punish European liberals for their timidity in the face of Islam.

I have written a fair amount about the threat that Islam poses to open societies, but I am happy to say that Breivik appears never to have heard of me. He has, however, digested the opinions of many writers who share my general concerns—Theodore Dalrymple, Robert D. Kaplan, Lee Harris, Ibn Warraq, Bernard Lewis, Andrew Bostom, Robert Spencer, Walid Shoebat, Daniel Pipes, Bat Ye’or, Mark Steyn, Samuel Huntington, et al. He even singles out my friend and colleague Ayaan Hirsi Ali for special praise, repeatedly quoting a blogger who thinks she deserves a Nobel Peace Prize. With a friend like Breivik, one will never want for enemies.

He then goes on to pout over crossed arms that now no one will want to talk about the awfulness of Islam anymore. While I am unimpressed with his attitude, at least he acknowledges that Breivik’s actions cannot be laid at Islam’s door.

Mass Murder in Norway

The death toll is up to 92 people in Oslo and Utoya Island, at last count.

The killings, it now seems clear, were carried out by a 32-year old Norwegian, named by local media as Anders Behring Breivik, who had expressed far-right views, and had dressed as a policeman to carry out his bomb attack on government buildings in central Oslo before heading to the island of Utøya, where he shot at least 85 people.

Who were the victims, I wonder?

Teenagers at the lakeside camp organised by Stoltenberg’s ruling Labour party fled screaming in panic, many leaping into the water or climbing trees to save themselves, when the attacker began spraying them with gunfire.

More on the suspect?

Andersen said the suspect also posted on websites with Christian fundamentalist tendencies. He did not describe the websites in any more details.

Norway’s national police chief, Sveinung Sponheim, told the national broadcaster NRK that the suspected gunman’s internet postings “suggest he has some political traits directed towards the right, and anti-Muslim views, but whether that was a motivation for the actual act remains to be seen”.

A police official said the suspect appears to have acted alone in both attacks, and that “it seems like this is not linked to any international terrorist organisations at all.” The official spoke on condition of anonymity because that information had not been officially released by Norway’s police.

“It seems it’s not Islamic-terror related,” the official said. “This seems like a madman’s work.”

No, it’s not Islamic-terror-related, instead it’s Christian, anti-Muslim, rightwing-terror-related. Dozens of left-leaning teenagers have been killed by a nationalist, anti-immigrant blond Norwegian, and the official line is that unlike when those scary Muslims do it, this was the act of an isolated madman. If a swarthy, bearded guy with an Arabic surname was responsible for these attacks, he would be considered a terrorist. When it’s a white guy named Breivik, he’s a madman.

It could be worse. At least they’re specifying that no Muslims were involved in the attacks, unlike some supposedly reputable news sources whose names begin with “Washington” and end in “Post” who just go ahead and ASSume it must have been a Muslim shooter.
