Seems the off-season has not quite run out of leaks to keep us busy. Watchers brings us some interesting stuff today, concerning something happening at Winterfell. Ready for this?
According to WotW‘s sources, a scene was rehearsed and is being filmed this week involving Sansa, Jon Snow, Ramsay and Littlefinger.
The characters are interacting in Winterfell’s courtyard, and there’s a great deal of tension…
And then a giant turns up at the gates! The giant tries to force its way in and the people inside have to fight it off.
Sansa in the same courtyard as Ramsay fucking Bolton AND Littlefinger? Oh dear.
One question for this is: where the fuck is Roose?
We’ve just begun to get info on Sansa’s movements in S6, and Littlefinger has stayed even quieter. I’ve done some speculating on what he could be up to, and this scene doesn’t really confirm or deny. I’m still squishy on his role in the scene.
I’m much more confident, however, that this takes place after the Battle of the Bastards, that Roose is dead, and Ramsay is there as Jon and Sansa’s captive. They’re arguing over how to execute him.
I don’t think it’s before the battle, because, even if Sansa felt gutsy enough to face Ramsay again, I can’t see him allowing her and post-resurrection Jon to get as far as the Winterfell courtyard and then let them out in one piece. And then I’d also like to know: where is Roose? If Roose is alive, he should be the one in charge of any parley with their opponents.
Nah, I think this scene is looking at the end of the Boltons. I’m thinking, late Ep9 or Ep10.
I’ve already puked up a lot of words on what’s coming next for Littlefinger, so with that speculation in mind, I don’t assume anything about his role here. I don’t assume he’s there of his own free will. I don’t assume he’s there as the Starks’ prisoner, but I don’t rule it out. I do suspect that he isn’t nearly as much in control of this interaction as he’d like to be. He may have come up to Winterfell with his army of Arryn troops to play carrion crow after the Battle of the Bastards, or he may have been there as a Bolton associate. If he did try to play carrion crow, somehow I think it didn’t work out so well for him.
And then the giant comes in. We don’t know whether this giant is Wun Wun, or someone else, but I suspect he’s affiliated with the Stark/wildling side, for obvious reasons. If he happens to kill Ramsay by stepping on him, that would be bittersweet. Ramsay needs to die, of course, but we want one of the Starks to kill him. If the giant happens to kill Littlefinger by stepping on him, that would be poetic. LF thrives on chaos until it kills him.
I’m not too invested in the giant’s motives for storming the gates, because something I remember from reading ADWD is that giants are not the most straightforward allies to have. They are certainly effective! But they are also, as I implied in the previous paragraph: chaotic. A giant is not a pet. A giant may be on your side, but that doesn’t mean he’s safe to be around. I don’t mind being clueless about what’s driving the giant to force his way into the castle. I’m more interested in how the humans’ interaction is going.
