In Which Everyone is Obsessed with Kit Harington’s Hair

I expected to be up to my eyebrows at the office until well after closing today, but then I…wasn’t, all of a sudden, and followed a link in the Trending bar on Facebook. Everyone’s talking about Kit Harington (Jon Snow) showing up in Belfast for what appears to be far from the first time in the last few months. From Watchers on the Wall:

Is it possible Harington is there to simply film a funeral/play a dead body? Technically. But considering how many visits he’s had to Belfast in the past couple months of pre-production, I find it very difficult to believe. Harington has also refused to take photos with any fans in Belfast recently, according to several Twitter mentions.

And he’s still sporting a man-bun! Let no Harington-spotting go without a mention of the guy’s hair length. I’ve heard his contract states that he can’t get his hair cut short until the show is finished with him. So everyone’s always keeping track of his mane.

That he’s refusing to take photos with fans may be noteworthy, but I’m just gonna take this opportunity to throw the possibility out there that he’s not letting fans take selfies with him because he’s tired of the attention and wants to go about his day like a normal human. There are worse sorts of attention one can get, but even so, that shit can get exhausting. It’s not necessarily because the producers are trying to keep his presence a secret. If he were seen wearing a hoodie while getting off the plane, AND shunning cameras in Belfast, that I would take as a sign that he’s been asked to keep a low profile because Jon’s being resurrected and we’re not supposed to know.

That he’s made several visits to Belfast, though, in a short period of time? Okay, that probably means something.

Let’s go back to my post-finale binge and see what was said about Jon Snow:

When asked point-blank if Snow is firmly gone—as in, is actor Kit Harington released from his Thrones contract?—showrunner Dan Weiss told EW, “Dead is dead.”

“We would hope that after seeing the scene and the way it’s shot that the answer to that will be unambiguous in the minds of the people watching it,” Weiss explained. “It should be pretty clear what happens in by the time you’re done seeing that scene. It’s not an, ‘Oh what just happened scene?’”

That’s a pretty simple question with a yes-or-no answer, and now that I look at it again, Mr. Weiss isn’t giving us a simple yes-or-no.

The content of the final shot is unambiguous: Jon Snow has really been killed. That much is not in dispute. The question is whether he’s staying dead. As far as that goes, Weiss could have simply said: “Yes, Kit Harington has been released from his contract.” But he doesn’t really answer the question. And in light of Hair-ington (you can smack me for that) being a frequent flyer into Belfast airport at the same time as all the other GoT actors, I think it’s especially relevant that Mr. Weiss didn’t give us a simple yes or no.

If you follow the same link, there’s also news of an Irish actor, Eddie Jackson, winning a role on GoT which so far remains nameless. Honestly? I have not the slightest idea what role he could be playing. I’ll leave y’all to speculate about that. Very distinctive face on that guy.

Oh, and, in another recent WotW post, Gemma Whelan was among the cast members seen showing up in Belfast. Which very probably means we’ll be seeing more of Yara Greyjoy in S6! I’m sure she’ll be so happy to see her little brother back in possession of himself.
